Hello! Me & my wife are interested in learning and playing some uke. We currently don't own any ukeleles. I have played piano & flute as a kid(i'm older, so this is a long time ago). I can read sheet music (but not for guitar/uke). My wife is untrained and this will be here first instrument!

We have a lot of questions, probably the most pressing is where to get a Ukelele. Anyone have any used or spare ones? Any other tips or complete beginner ifo? We might be able to attend the Nov 16th session.

Thanks!

Hi, Chris and Paola,

Welcome to TUKU. Ukuleles can be purchased at Guitar Center, the Folk Shop, and from Instrumental Music Center, which also rents instruments. Ukes are also available online. You don’t have to know how to read music to play we us and chords are easy to learn. Sunday we can show you a few things and answer your questions and get you started.

I suggest coming to a session before you buy ukes. You can see a variety of ukes and what else people have in the way of music stands, uke stands, straps, tuners, chairs/stools, etc. Also printed chord sheets vs. using a cell phone or e-reader or laptop or tablet.

I'm fairly new to the group myself, but have years of playing guitar and hauling around more equipment than I would want to handle at this stage of my life. Like most members of TUKU, I can carry in everything I need with one trip from the car without hurting myself.
